f you’re looking for a new dentist, you may have found a few different practices who, like Flourish Dental Boutique, advertise themselves as “holistic dentistry” practices. What does this mean, and what’s the difference between holistic dentists and traditional dentists? You can learn more and get started at our office by scheduling an appointment with Dr. Toni Engram today.
Your first visit can vary depending on your needs and oral health goals. Your experience will likely be similar to one of the following examples:
Once you schedule your appointment, forms and paperwork are typically sent electronically to you that evening. If you are unable to complete these forms prior to your appointment, please arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete them.
It is always your choice whether or not you receive any type of healthcare treatment, including dental x-rays. This is a diagnostic tool that requires consent, and we believe very strongly in proper informed consent. However, there are numerous oral issues that can only be seen on an x-ray, and because of this, they are considered the standard of care, and the legal and ethical duty of dentists, to take them as appropriate. Therefore, a comprehensive exam must include a review of recent (less than 12 months old) x-rays, as appropriate for the age and condition of the patient. If you would like to skip x-rays at your first visit, we are happy to review x-rays from your previous dentist, as long as they are less than 12 months old, and of good quality (screenshots from a phone typically won’t work). Please request these from your previous dentist at least 2 business days in advance! It is usually not possible to call at the time of your appointment and have them immediately sent over in time for us to review them.
If you do not have recent x-rays for us to review, and do not wish to have any new x-rays taken at our office, please let us know as soon as possible (at least 2 business days in advance), as we will likely need to change your appointment to a shorter consultation.
Radiation Safety: We feel very comfortable with the safety of digital x-rays used in our office, and we keep your exposure to levels as low as reasonably achievable. For a view of how dental x-rays compare to other common sources of radiation, click here. And visit here for ways to minimize the effects of any radiation exposure.
Cone Beam CT (CBCT): This invaluable tool gives us a 3D view of your mouth, jaws, and airway, and so we like to take it on your first visit with us. For more information, please see Dr. Engram’s short video Cone Beam CT (CBCT) Imaging
We require payment in full at the time of your first visit. We will gladly accept cash, check or credit card payment for your visit. Please call our office to inquire how much your first visit with us will be.
We are happy to file claims on your behalf to utilize your dental benefits. We collect payment from you for the amount of your appointment in full, and have your insurance company reimburse you. We are not contracted with any insurance company, and so we are considered out of network with all insurance companies. The plan that you and your employer chose must include out of network benefits in order to reimburse for your care with us.
